MBox 2 not lighting up

Just got an MBox 2 via ebay.
usb is not lighting on, no audio coming out. the computer sees the mbox when i go in the "about this mac" window, and i get pro tools to run and apparently recognize the mbox.
I'm running a power mac dual 1.8 ghz, OS 10.4.11, and PT LE 6.8.1.
could this be just a compatibility issue or is it a hardware issue?
I'm afraid of the latter since 6.8.1 is supposed to be compatible with OS 10.4, at least officially up to 10.4.2. Should i revert to an older os version, or will this not change anything?

EDIT:
I've tried it on my powerbook g3 running OS 10.3.9, PT seems to run smoothly, but still no usb light nor audio. What kind of hardware problem can this be?

So apparently I needed to update the MBox's driver on my computer. Pretty simple but not so obvious.
The previous owner had updated the MBox's firmware to 1.38. It seemed useless at first to download and install the firmware again, but the thing that isn't mentioned very clearly anywhere on the digidesign website is that the firmware download includes both a driver and the firmware. Then again, I guess there's not much need to mention it since this is an exceptional case - most users will be the original owners and go through the upgrade process in one shot. And that's if they even need to do this upgrade which was apparently just for certain PowerBook G4 models.
I didn't even reinstall the firmware on the MBox, just the driver. Everything seems to be working fine now.
