Isn't PTLE sample accurate?
Reading here and there sometimes I encountered this strange association of words:
PTLE IS NOT SAMPLE ACCURATE Can somebody explain me, what this thing means? Can some body explain me how to experiment and possibly overcome this? Thank you Last edited by Kempo; 04-16-2010 at 07:16 AM. Reason: Bad english |

Re: Isn't PTLE sample accurate?
PT LE is among something like 13 DAW's that rendered sample-identical results from a mixdown, meaning either 13 different mixing engines, mostly from completely different companies, have the exact same flaw, or they're sample-accurate.
Mixing digital audio is raw math, and what better to do that than a computer. One of the main arguments against digital summing is that analog summing offers an "interactivity" between the analog signals that digital can't emulate. I personally think that's a crock because I can put a tape saturation plug on my master fader and it has that same sense of interactivity. The analog sum bus could simply have an output buffer stage that sweetens things up. It would certainly sell consoles wouldn't it! The importance of sample-accuracy is consistency, so you can better understand which inaccuracies help sound quality and which don't. Dead neutral digital mixing sounds flat and lifeless compared to analog coloration, but there is nothing about analog coloration that cannot be emulated digitally. In fact I would argue that it's better to have many digital representations of analog processing to choose from rather than be stuck with whatever antiquated high-maintenance analog gear is available to you. Sample-accuracy lets you learn the coloration, and not just the gear. |

Re: Isn't PTLE sample accurate?
From my experience with it, it is extremely accurate.
