Default blank tracks in score editor

pretty new to PT, still learning ...
I have deleted certain MIDI tracks and regions, added new ones, etc., but when I go to the score editor I still see what seem to be the removed tracks (blank).
No matter what I try, I'm simply not able to get rid of them (even though they're no longer shown in the track or regions lists) .... why? what to do?? this is driving me crazy (and can not find any obvious information regarding this in the reference)
