Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
I have a new hp i7 laptop with Windows 7 64 bit, M-Box 2 Pro firewire and PT 8.03. Got everything installed correctly, followed the guidlines for setting up windows for pro tools. I am hooking the m-box up to the internal 4 pin firewire port, and using a SIIG firewire card in the express card port for the audio drive.
I fired up PT and loaded a session with 48 tracks, hardly any plugs and it played back great a couple of times, then I got the dreaded notice that the cpu was busy and I should lower the buffer setting, so I lowered it from 1024 to 512, and instantly PT said I should raise the buffer setting. I go thorugh this for about 10 minutes, and then it plays great, but then out of the blue, I'm back to the notices.System usage meter says that I am using about 10% of the CPU (RTAS) and disk usage is about 25%. I have tried plugging the M-Box into the SIGG card, and the drive into the internal 4 pin, but it doesn't seem to make any difference. TIA for any help.............sandra below SiSoftware Sandra Computer Model : HP HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC Workgroup : WORKGROUP Host Name : CliffConradi-PC User : Cliff Conradi Processor Model : Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz Speed : 1.73GHz Cores per Processor : 4 Unit(s) Threads per Core : 2 Unit(s) Type : Quad-Core Integrated Data Cache : 4x 32kB, Synchronous, Write-Thru, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L2 On-board Cache : 4x 256kB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 8-way, 64 byte line size, 2 threads sharing L3 On-board Cache : 6MB, ECC, Synchronous, ATC, 12-way, Exclusive, 64 byte line size, 8 threads sharing Computer Mainboard : Quanta 363C BIOS : HP F.04 09/10/2009 Bus(es) : PCI PCIe IMB USB FireWire/1394 i2c/SMBus Multi-Processor (MP) Support : No Multi-Processor Advanced PIC (APIC) : Yes Total Memory : 6GB DDR3 SO-DIMM Chipset Model : HP Clarksfield/Lynnfield DMI Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.4GHz (4.79GHz) Chipset Model : HP Core Mobile (Clarksfield) UnCore Front Side Bus Speed : 2x 2.13GHz (4.26GHz) Total Memory : 6GB DDR3 SO-DIMM Memory Bus Speed : 2x 532MHz (1GHz) Memory Module(s) Memory Module : Samsung M471B5673EH1-CH9 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-10700S DDR3-1334 (9-9-9-25 4-34-10-5) Memory Module : Samsung M471B5273BH1-CF8 4GB DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-8500S DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 4-27-8-4) Video System Video Adapter : NVIDIA GeForce GT 230M (32 SM4.1, 1GB DDR3, PCIe 2.00 x16) Graphics Processor Storage Devices ST9500420AS (500.1GB, SATA300, 2.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) : 466GB (C:) (D:) SAMSUNG HD501LJ (500.1GB, FireWire/1394, 3.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 8MB Cache) : 466GB (G:) hp DVDRAM GT20L (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 1MB Cache) : N/A (E:) Logical Storage Devices SYSTEM : 199MB (NTFS) New Volume (G:) : 466GB (NTFS) @ SAMSUNG HD501LJ (500.1GB, FireWire/1394, 3.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 8MB Cache) Hard Disk (C:) : 450GB (NTFS) @ ST9500420AS (500.1GB, SATA300, 2.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) RECOVERY (D:) : 15GB (NTFS) @ ST9500420AS (500.1GB, SATA300, 2.5", 7200rpm, NCQ, 16MB Cache) HP_TOOLS : 99MB (FAT32) Optical Drive (E:) : N/A @ hp DVDRAM GT20L (SATA150, DVD+-RW, CD-RW, 1MB Cache) Peripherals LPC Hub Controller 1 : HP P55/PM55/3400 LPC Interface Controller Audio Device : HP P55/PM55/3400 High Definition Audio Audio Codec : Integrated Device Tech 7603h Audio Codec : Lucent/Agere Systems (Was: AT&T MicroElectronics) HDA softmodem Audio Device : HP High Definition Audio Controller Audio Codec : nVidia 000Ah Audio Codec : nVidia 000Ah Audio Codec : nVidia 000Ah Serial Port(s) : 1 Disk Controller : HP P55/PM55/3400 6 port SATA AHCI Controller USB Controller 1 : HP P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller USB Controller 2 : HP P55/PM55/3400 USB2 Enhanced Host Controller FireWire/1394 Controller 1 : HP IEEE 1394 Host Controller FireWire/1394 Controller 2 : Avlab Technology XIO2200(A) IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link) SMBus/i2c Controller 1 : Intel 801xx/63xx SMBus Printers and Faxes Printer : Microsoft XPS Document Writer (600x600, Colour) Fax : Microsoft Shared Fax Driver (200x200) Network Services Power Management Mains (AC) Line Status : On-Line Battery No 1 : 100% Operating System Windows System : Microsoft Windows 7 Home 6.01.7600 Platform Compliance : x64 Windows Experience Index Current System : 5.9 |

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
It might work better to daisy-chain the Mbox 2 Pro and the hard drive. And I'm trying to remember the path, someone correct me if this is wrong....is it PC>hard drive>interface?
This way you run them both off the approved FW controller. |

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
I didn't think of trying that, I thought I remembered seeing somewhere on digi's site that the interface should be hooked to the internal firewire, and the drive to the SIIG. Another option I have is running the interface off the SIIG card and using the eSata port for the audio drive. Before I run out and buy the drive, do you think that an eSata drive would be okay with PT? Want to make sure before I tell the wife I need just one more drive.

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
I have found if you take the wife to Zales, you can pretty much finish out whatever you need for your system.......

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
E sata is probably going to be the best way to do this, yes!
That's just funny, there, Airborne!!!! |

Then Zales first, and eSata second it is.

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
Nope, can't be explained. I Googled it, but can only expect so much from that search engine...
I prefer to call it "negotiations" She calls it pre-approved credit. It's a win-win for both......

Re: Getting Pro Tools to run on HP i7 laptop
Was just joking about the pride thing...............I left mine by the wayside a long time ago too. And with 26 years of marriage I am also well versed in the fine art of negotiation Or as my wife likes to call it "Oh go ahead and get it you big baby"!
