Default Phasing sound on snare/cymbals when I use T-Racks3 plug-in

Hi folks,
I’m a relative novice to home recording. I’ve figured out the basics over the past year or so & have been managing to get demo quality recordings. So far so good.

I just bought the T-Racks3 Deluxe suite & think I have just entered the wonderful world of latency. When I try to use some of the Tracks3 plug ins (notably the compressors) I notice an audible phasing sound on the snare/cymbals. I assume this caused by latency? I have set the T-Racks3 pref to lowest latency, but I still have the problem.

Typically I have 9 mics on my kit. I generally set up 5 aux busses routed as follows:
1. Inner/outer kick
2. Snare top/bottom
3. Toms (3 x tom mics)
4. L&R overheads
5. Overall kit buss.

I know there’s a lot of discussion here about latency, but can anybody explain (in simple terms!) what I can do to compensate/eliminate the latency?

Sounds like a simple enough request, but somehow I don’t think the answer will be so simple!

Thanks

Hmm... I've been reading the manual & doing some online research (yeah, I know I should have done that first)... no ADC is a complete PITA!

Looks like I'll have to invest either a calculator or that ATA plug-in.

Ah well...

Or bounce to another track that would included the T-racks effects and then line that track up with the rest. That's what I do with many of my plug-ins, some like Drumagog you have to if you want a quality sound and no latency.

That, on the low setting, should be 132 samples, so u can either put 1 on the cymbals track, or duplicate that & press alt+h & type in the samples that its off... Or use Time adjuster...Or ATA...

Thanks for the replies... at least I have some options now, so appreciate you answering a very basic question!

Sorry to come back to this one... I've been using the time delay plug to align the delays on all of my tracks. The longest latency I have is 140 samples. I've inserted time adjuster on each track & now have all tracks showing 140 samples of delay. Although it's much better, I'm still getting a washy sound from the snare. Can anybody advise what else I should do?...

I tested the phase of the drum misc (pre-processing) & they all sounded in phase (although as a novice/home studio/drummer, my ears may not be tuned finley enough yet!).

Is it possible that PT shows incorrect sample delays?.. should I adjust samples by ear rather than relying on having PT show the "correct" samples of delay?

Here's an mp3 of the track if anybody wants to hear what I'm talking about.

Thanks!

I still think you should bounce to a track to rule out jitter and other variables. Then you can visually see what your ears may be missing. Also, AUX busses can induce a small amount of latency, especially if some of the raw signal goes to the bus and some does not.

Try it without the AUX buses, is the issue gone?

Thx... yes, without the bussing, the paahse issues seems to be gone... yet when the busses are active, all tracks are showing the same latency (140 samples) which is what has me stumped. That's why I was wondering if PT could be incorrect in the latency being displayed (140 samples)

Yeah sometimes the samples delayed aren't 100% accurate so u'd have to play with numbers or just make a dup track & audiosuite it & adjust from there...
