iMac run 002?
Hello everyone,
This is my first post. Basically im setting up a Home Studio for Audio Post production. Would this iMac be enough or just as good for what i want to do with it? 20-inch widescreen LCD 2GHz PowerPC G5 667MHz frontside bus 512K L2 cache 512MB DDR400 SDRAM 250GB Serial ATA hard drive Slot-load 8x SuperDrive double-layer ATI Radeon 9600 128MB DDR video memory I want to run a 002 with it. Would it work ok? Or should i just get the Power Mac? Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5 1GHz frontside bus/processor 512K L2 cache/processor 512MB DDR400 SDRAM Expandable to 4GB SDRAM 160GB Serial ATA 16x SuperDrive (double-layer) Three PCI Slots ATI Radeon 9600 128MB DDR video memory Bit of difference with money but im hoping the iMac might be ok. Thanks |

Re: iMac run 002?
Well it depends on what you're looking for and what your use of this machine will be. First you have to figure out everything you're going to put on this machine...not just protools...like, are you going to be editing movies with final cut and then doing your post production sound in protools? Will it be your multi-use computer on top of recording? (not suggested at all)...Basically you need to figure out everything you're going to be doing with this computer first. If you're going to be doing a lot of high processor apps, I'd go with a dual G5...in fact, I'd always go with a dual G5 except when money is the hindrance...All in all, the IMac will work. Your biggest downfall is if you're doing big production scenes that call for 30+ tracks at a time. Then you're going to need some real processing power...But you can probably get away with the iMac. If this is the road you're going to take though, you must upgrade the ram to at least 1gb at the min for now till you can get more. If it's too much to buy it through apple, buy it through ebay...you can't make a decent recording even on an mbox with 512mb...512mb is a great size for thumb drives, not your ram. If you upgrade the ram and you're not going crazy with the tracks, you should do alright. Good luck-

Re: iMac run 002?
Hey thanks so much for your reply.
I will keep doing my research. But someone told me that the 002 wont record into iMac. they have troble...something to do coz of the driver? like i need 2 drives, one for Audio ect. Will the 002 work well with iMac? Im not recording bands or anything....just loading sounds into ect and then editing on Pro Tools. Im thinking iMac the way to go..but i need to know for certain..lol thanks |

Re: iMac run 002?
The 002 is fully qualified for use with an iMac, though it is strongly recommended you use a compatible firewire drive for your audio files and Pro Tools sessions.
