Default Re: New Mac Pro (7.1)

Hi all - I am a little confused...... I have been reading many pages and many posts about the 2019 MacPro + HDX2 (or HDX3)

I will eventually buy a 2019 Macpro (later this year) and put either HDX-2 Or HDX-3 into it. I am coming from a 2012 Mac Pro HDX-3 rig.

Some people are saying that one must buy the $70 Belkin cable set.

but others say "not to bother buying the Belkin cable set - as the old HDX power jumper cords that worked in the 2012 Mac Pro (that I have) work just fine in the 2019"

and also another question - now AVID is saying the HDX needs to be in slot 2-3-4 IIRC, but others use in slot 6-7-8 (IIRC) with good success....

also - Avid are recommending a 10" or longer SATA cable to connect the cards – does this seem a bit on the long side?

where would I buy these?
and
these SATA cables are different than the power cable, right?

thanks.

Ah! Yes, you are right. I can’t argue with that when it comes to Apple in general. Although, the new Mac Pro is pretty darn close to being the most user-upgradable Mac in 10 years. The only slightly new thing I can think of is the MPX modules.

Yes, you can use the original power cable. Whether you need the SATA cable will depend on which slot you put them in. Their recommendation does appear to be on the long side! Avid recommend a particular slot configuration but it appears they’ll work in any slot (except slot 8).

I think that you will only need the Belkin cable if you put the cards in the lower slots. I have one card in slot 6 with the original cable. 5-6-7 ought to work, but not 2-3-4.

Mine is in slot 3 and I just used the cable I had in my old Mac. But, I have the Belkin kit just in case...

Wasn't Apple and Avid marketing 6 cards inside a MP7.1

They should work in any slot, he just means that some slots need a different cable. Probably just longer ones.

I am one who bought the Belkin adapters thinking it was needed to power the HDX1 card before I got my MP 7,1.
None of them fit. Good thing I saved the box that HDX came with. I found one that fits the motherboard. It's on slot 6 (thinking it was 5) and working great, no fan noise!

PT is running great here at 128.
Waiting for the 2.0TB OWC's Accelsior 4M2 PCIe Card to arrive then I'll be all set!

What the duck? Belkin is usually pretty solid brand but this sounds bad...
