5.1 with Mac and SPL Surround Controller 2489

So I am planning to get the SPL Surround Monitor Controller 5.1 to be my physical studio controller.

My set up would be:

HD Omni output to SPL using DB25 to DB25 cable (for my Pro Tools playback)
SPL output to my powered studio surround monitors

My question is, how will mac recognise my surround monitors?
Will mac automatically recognise the surround monitors through its 3.5 mm aux output going in to the SPL?

Btw I am using a Mac Pro Trash Can (MacOS 10.10)

DB25 cable carries analog audio so your Mac will not see the controller at all. Only the analog 5.1 output.

The DB25 will be used for the HD Omni output going into the controller.


My next question would be, how can I listen to 5.1 audio outside Pro Tools? If want to listen to the exported files for example. I Want to listen to 5.1 audio from the Mac playback.

Mac Pro 2013 does not have 5.1 output so you need to monitor via your interface. Go to Apple Menu / System Preferences / Sound / Output to choose from what you have.

I myself have a trashcan and Apogee Symphony mkII so would just choose that for output device. Don't have an idea how Omni shows up in there but it should.
