Default screen, app, faders, and meters freeze...beachball

Hello,
I am running...
Powermac G4 dual 1.8ghz
1.38gig ram
pt le 7.1
digi 002 rack

I have this horrible problem..pro tools gives me the spinning beachball in any session. the faders and meters freeze and the only thing i can do is force quit. It happens 50 times a day..i contacted digi support and they said it had nothing to do with the 002? they said it was my computer. So i upgraded my video card and firewire pci card, but it still does it. The weird thing is, is that the audio keeps playing but i can't do anything in pro tools..any suggestions on what it could be? I've done everything in the mac optimizations, this is a real advance problem, so i don't need the normal troubleshooting advice. Please HELP!!!!!
