Default Omni headphone mix out rear port

Anyone sending a headphone cue mix out the rear TRS ports of an Omni instead of the front HP jack? If so, how have you set that up? Thank you in advance.

What is the end goal here? Its simple enough to send a headphone mix out any available outputs(mono or stereo) and route to a headphone amp. I run 6 stereo headphone mixes out of my interfaces(2x HD IO and 2x 192 IO). The only caveat is, the Avid boxes have all balanced outputs, and if they feed an UNbalanced input, you MUST NOT ground the cold side of the signal. Since the AUX inputs of my headphone amp(ART HeadPro 6) are unbalanced, I made a special DB25 breakout to maintain the correct wiring(if you don't, it can damage the interface(OMNI, HD IO and 192 IO are all the same on this IIRC, but do read the manual for the OMNI, in case Avid did something different on that unit)

It is a little restrictive, but it should be possible. The TRS outputs on the back can only ever mirror outputs 1&2 or outputs 7&8. You can configure it in the last tab of the 'hardware' menu in Pro Tools, or via the setup buttons and 'TRSOUT' on the front panel of the Omni. You would also need to change the output routing in the I/O menu of Pro Tools. I think the Cue 1-2 default to output 9&10, but you can change it to output 7&8 if it is free.

You also need to make sure that none of your monitoring configuration is assigned to 7&8. It won't be available to route to if it is! I would be inclined to think that routing out the DB25 output 7&8 would be a little more straight forward.

When recording VO/ADR, I use the front headphones for my own headphones and the two rear TRS: one for talent HP and the other for the director HP.
