Default Upgrading to mint G4, should I go IDE all the way?

What do you say? I''m about to order a mint G4 733 as soon as possible. My current Adptec 2940UW isn't supported anymore, and is causing trouble. Should I forget about scsi, and go for IDE all the way? (no I can't afford a fat raid . Even an ATTO card would hurt my budget at this point, having specified for two years total budget for immediate purchase. I've got a mix++ system, it needs to be able to play back at least 40 tracks without too much lagging (although I normally stay around 25)

Any thoughts?

Default Re: Upgrading to mint G4, should I go IDE all the way?

I'm running a new G4 733 and all I have installed right now is the hard drive it came with. I am able to get 40 tracks of record and playback so far. I haven't tried anything higher than that but if thats all you need then everything should be ok. I don't have any edits at all on the tracks so that may decrease the number depending on the amount of edits you do. I bought another IDE drive but I haven't put it in yet. Anyway, just try the system drive and if you are happy I would just add another IDE 7200. Be careful if you are only running PT 5.0.1 cause you will need to upgrade to DAE 5.1 so your Mix Farm will be recognized.

Hi,

I've go a DP G4 machine with IDE only.
I added a 30 and a 40 Gig. I still have
SCSI for my CD Burner but all my tracking
