Default Audio Spike Causes Reboot?

Does an audio spike cause LE to consume substantially more computing resources( cpu or disk ) than prior to the spike. My system rebooted after 85 mins of recording when a mic screeched. Unsupported but never a problem in 17 mos.
Any ideas

Earl
