EQ - digital vs analog
I'm curious about the differences between digital and analog equalizers. Assuming I was comparing two similar quality EQs, would a digital EQ introduce different artifacts (phase shift, latency, distortions) compared to an analog EQ? The conveniences of digital units are appealing, but I'm more concerned about audio quality. Of course, I'm referring to outboard gear, not ProTool plug-ins.
Originally, I started looking for a parametric EQ to tune my monitors. (Yeah, I now know that's a less than ideal method to tune a room, so I'm rethinking that approach) If I were to use a parametric EQ, for whatever application, do the digital units work well, or should I stick with a high quality analog model? Thanks in advance for info on this, Dave Patterson |
