No, that is not true. Some of the early Athlon motherboards do not work with Digi001 and did work fine with PT free. I had an Asus K7M motherboard that was very popular for the 1 Ghz Athlons that would not work and there were others that couldn't get it to work. The other chipset that does not work is the AliMagic chipset. Make sure you have one of these chipsets: KT133, KT133a,AMD 760,KT266,KT266a.
I prefer the new KT266a or A7V266E motherboard and if you have a socket A processor over 1Ghz you should be able to swap motherboards for around 160.00 plus the DDR SDRAM. If you have the SDRAM already you may want to consider the KT133a chipset or the A7V133 motherboard.
Good luck.

If it is a slot A, it is not a KT133 or KT133a. Check with the manufacturer. If you go with the KT133a chipset motherboards, you will need to buy a new processor as they require socket A processors. I would stick with the A7V133. Best performer in that class with Digi001.
Good luck.

That system would be fine except I would go with 512MB SDRAM. You may also want to check out www.pricewatch.com for these components and check out the new XP processors instead of the 1.4Ghz T-bird you have selected. They run more efficiently and require less cooling. If you go with the 1.4Ghz, make sure you are getting the Volcano II and not the old Volcano fan/heatsink unit.
Personally, I would go with the A7V266E motherboard, XP 1.8 or 1.9 processor, 512MB of DDR SDRAM PC2100. Then you would have a kick butt system.
Good luck.
