Default 2018.7 Release Notes: CTRL+P to move the Edit selection up?

Move Edit Up
• Moves the Edit selection up one track. If more than one track is included in the current Edit selection, those tracks are removed from the selection and the selection is only on the one track.
Control + P

Can someone explain to me why this is different than the regular old P?

Yeah, I was wondering that! On first reading I thought, brilliant, it actually moves the selected audio not just the selection. But no, it's just good old P but with a superfluous modifier.

Seems like the coders haven’t really gone over the keyboard quick commands. Definitely is redundant.

It's quite strange to see them as new functions where they've been there forever and a day, and pretty much in the top 10 of my most used key commands.

Ahhh, I see what it is. P is a keyboard shortcut, Ctrl+P is also a keyboard shortcut but for a menu item - Edit->Selection. Suppose that's good for keyboard macro recorders, unfortunately they don't seem to have done Ctrl+Tab which would be Very useful for me.

P still works with Keyboard Maestro.
But having it in the menu helps if you use accessibility.

P only Works when the Keyboard Focus is on the Edit Window. CTRL+P will be the normal shortcut. Moving clips up and down with a key stroke would be nice.... Time to make a new macro.

That would indeed be nice. Initially I hoped that's what the update meant, but I couldn't get it to do anything different besides the usual, maybe in the next release.

Speak for yourself. I use the control modifier all the time. I prefer keyboard focus on groups.
