Hi Spyoptic, I have just completed my first HD Accel Hackintosh build and decided to go with X79 after briefly considering X99.

Initially I decided to want to build a machine I could boot into 10.8.5 to be on the safe side seeing that it was my first Hackintosh and I wanted to be able to boot into an OS officially supportedby AVID if necessary.

I followed the guide on this website:
http://www.rampagedev.com and the install and configuration has been an absolute breeze.

It seems that X99 is still a bit bleeding edge as far as a Hack is concerned. One thing you will need to be aware of is that the minimum system for X99 is 10.9.4. As Pro Tools HD 10 is not officially qualified for 10.9.x and Yosemite is really not an option for professional work you will be left with socket 2011-3 support as it was in 10.9.5 before Mavericks became a legacy OS.

There are also some other issues regarding Hacks and X99 so for me the risk was not worth it. If I decided to build another Hackintosh I might go with X99 but this won't be until years from now.

I did use Mavericks in the end for my build (even though I do not like the OS) and am running 10.9.5 which works well with Pro Tools 10 with the exception of the uninstaller bug.

PM if I can be of any help - I can give you my spec and you can see if it's of interest.

Further reading regarding X99 installs can be found here.
