Default Protools M-powered 8 won't install problem for weeks

Ok I’ve been dealing with this for weeks. I bought protools m-powered 8 for my studio, I already had a M-Audio Firewire Solo. Every time I try to install it sits at “installing drivers” which is right in the beginning of the install. I’ve waited for hours and days to no luck. If I cancel the install and try again the installation completes breezing thru the “installing drivers” part and asks me to restart the computer. when i say yes, a windows box pops up stating I have to cancel a program to shut down the computer, This program is listed as “digidesign audio drivers” and the process is named as setup. Now I’ve also sat for hours and days to see if the program would just complete itself and reboot but never does. Now when I do stop this and restart the computer before windows loads completely a black command box screen pops up and behind that is a small box saying “registering dgimidi services” I also have let this sit and nothing changes i end up having to restart again. Now Protools is on my computer in stalled but will not open up at all it doesnt even pop up at the bottom bar. I have the CD for Pro-tools and I have tried from cd and have copied everything from disk and put on computer and tried that way. any help?

I think we're going to need a bit more info.

Can you take a look at the Help Us Help You thread, which details what we (and other DUC members) need to know to assist you properly?

I would probably start with a clean uninstall of Pro Tools and M-Audio drivers - there's info in the General Troubleshooting thread about how to do that - then reinstall. Make sure to do the optimizations in the General Troubleshooting thread before reinstalling - turn off unnecessary background services, hardware, etc.

I've seen Pro Tools absolutely hate mixed RAM. Try starting out with matching RAM (brand and speed). Have you tried disabling the wireless? Have you tried a Texas Instrument F/W controller?

Oh yeah... that RAM is completely different. The 1GB hyundai is actually slowing down all the rest of your RAM. Even if you can't find another kingston chip that is exactly the same... at least put in another DIMM of PC2-5300.

I would even just try taking out that one module temporarily just to see if PT will install with it out.

I also noticed only one hard drive. While not critical for installation... you WILL need a secondary hard drive to put your sessions on, as per minimum requirements for Pro Tools.

Otherwise... make sure you are following the installation instructions exactly. With M-Powered, you need to install the drivers for the device first, before installing Pro Tools. So install your Solo's drivers, restart. Install Pro Tools, restart. Do it fresh. Do it without the one slow RAM module.

Let us know.

Ok i will try removing the ram, i cant buy a new one until friday. With disabling my wireless is that something permanent or just for the install. And what is a texas instrument firewire controller? Oh and i do have a 1tb external firewire hard drive for my sessions it just wasnt hooked up.
