Hey jonh, I noticed you're using the waves ssl g channel. Ever compared it to the new channel strip of pt 10? what's your thought about the two? I've been thinking of getting the ssl 4000 plugin series, but I'm wondering if it's needed now with the channel strip.

I prefer the SSL hands down. Having worked on the actual console it sounds pretty darn accurate. That being said, the Channel Strip in PT10 is pretty good for not being an emulation of outboard gear.

I guess the key is to make the buffer 1024 when mixing. Logic does it automatically I think, but not a big deal to do it manually.

Does PT have a mode that automatically disables heavy / high-latency plugins when tracking? Logic has it and it disables plugins even on tracks that aren't record enabled (thought not sure if that is necessary). I know PT has the low latency mode for the record enabled tracks and I guess you could just manually deactivate tracks.

Here is another one for you. Working on it today. No plugs on the vocal chain though. What you are looking at is the instrument (audio) tracks. No VI's on this one. What you don't see is the 30 vocal tracks, 4 Aux busses (all Drums, All Bass, All Guitar, All Vox), the click track, Main Fader, and Print Aux/Audio.

The link is an Image of the session itself instead of me just typing it in. Did it in MSpaint too so no photoshopping happened here.

Its at 5 cores at 99% 1024 samples.
I did it at 256 samples and was only at 46%

I always leave plugs enabled when tracking....as long as the track latency is not above 1024 i'm fine with a 128-256 buffer.

Nice! I wonder if PT runs better on Windows than a Mac? Did you do any specific optimizations to your machine to get PT to run better?

A few years back I was running some heavy sessions (couple of vi's, 20-40 tracks, lots of plugins on a simple pentium-D (1 core with hyper-threading) I think your machine was having some pretty weird hardware problems, cause it shouldn't have done that one tiny bit. I've never seen a system bugdown with only 5 audio tracks (since they take a lot less cpu usage to run than vi's).

And I'm sure he did the usual windows optimization that is posted on the Avid webstie.
