Default Yosemite way more stable than El Cap and Sierra, best way to downgrade

I tested 12.5.2 and 12.6.1 with OS 10.10.5 / 10.11.6 / and 10.12.1 and without a doubt Yosemite is the most stable, especially when it comes to cpu spikes and errors -9093 and -9173.

Anyone knows if i can install Yosemite on a new Mac Pro purchased today with Sierra preinstalled. If i remember correctly, the bios will prevent you from installing any OS lower than the one that comes with it.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't. The "New MacPro" is actually a late 2013 machine which hasn't seen ANY upgrade or revision since, so you should be good.

I've been on the fence about sticking with 10.10.5 when I install
12.6.1 or going with Sierra as there is a lot of luv for that combo.

What rig did you base your conclusion on?

Thanks!

The only thing I'd know to try is to install Yosemite on an external drive from an older Mac...then see if the new Mac Pro will boot from it. If it will then clone it over. An issue with that is that the drivers that control fans and heat management may not be compatible with the new Mac Pro.

You can go back as far as 10.9.5, but I'd go to 10.10.5 instead. You'll have to boot from external recovery media/or another system's bootable backup and use disk utility to kill the current data. From there just run the Yosemite installer and install it to the now clean disk in the nMP.

Sierra so far has been way more stable for me with Pro Tools than Yosemite was.

I'm getting a lot more -9093 errors with Sierra, even on sessions with very little on. Reminds me of my old G4 when it used to constantly fall over.

You definitely can go back to Yosemite.

Easiest way I've found is to plug the new mac into an older one and put the new one in Target Disk Mode. From there use disk utility on the older one to format the drive completely. Then I run the OS Yosemite installer which then I can choose which HD to install it on. Choose the new computer connected via target disk mode and you're good to go. Once it finishes it will reboot and you will go through the normal setup process. After that tell it to shut down then disconnect the computers. Reboot the new one and you're all set.

Exactly what we did. I think all nMP late 2013 came with Mavericks so you can go back all the way to 10.9.5 which rocks BTW
