Interesting Upgrade conversation....
Spoke the other day with an Avid rep regarding renewing one of our rigs perpetual license that was about to expire. We were given the 400 dollar option to renew the license for a year, with support...OR we could surrender the 'old' perpetual license, and get a brand spanking NEW annual subscription, with support, for only 600 dollars....!
huh...? His lack of ability to really explain why one would take the latter option was clear...we kept the perpetual...but how many others would opt for the 600 dollar NEW subscription...? What gives here...?? |

Surrender it for a subscription, is the most stupid thing one can do, simply because having a perpetual license, you still have an asset. Even if you don't update your annual plan (for $399) you can use PT as it is, or later you can sell it if you want and get back some cash... If you exchange it for a subscription, once you stop paying you have nothing in the end... Subscription benefits Avid and not you, simple as that! Cheers!

Re: Interesting Upgrade conversation....
It seems obvious that keeping your license would be the way to go.
But the main point for me here is... why would they think you’d pay $200 extra not to have your license? Doesn’t make any sense. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Re: Interesting Upgrade conversation....
For sure. [Insert "It's a trap!" meme here] I mean, perpetual licenses don't actually expire, just the support plan. You can continue using your current version for as long as you have a compatible computer and OS. But I know what you mean.

Re: Interesting Upgrade conversation....
Wait what !!!! your saying the New subscription deal is $600 AND $600 a year there after ( or does the annual Subscription fee drop to hopefully well below $399)
Otherwise it sounds like the choice is Surrender the Perp licence and pay $600 every year OR keep the Perp and pay $400 every year GEE let me think about this
