Default MIDI Keyboard Sustain Pedal Sticks only when recording

Hello,

New song on ProTools 2019.6.0. When practicing with record enabled, sustain pedal works fine. When tracking the 1st half of the song, the sustain was fine. Now trying to add to the song, EVERY time going into record, the sustain pedal "sticks" and stays on. Reloaded session, rebooted. What gives? Any ideas? Thanks!

Nektar GX61 keyboard. 2013 iMac Mojave 10.14.5.

Assuming your Nektar & sustain pedal are okay take a look at the MIDI event list for the track in question and see if you don't have an unresolved pair of MIDI sustain pedal events like an on without an off and vice versa.

What vi are you using? Some vi's have a tendency to have a sticky sustain pedal response.

Thank you... Using EZ Keys, all up to date. MIDI Events show sustain is working OK. Screen shot attached. I imagine if I try to overdub then we'd see the sustain stuck on in events.

Is this the infamous midi merge bug once again?

What does the MIDI event list show and how's the timing of the events there? The graphic you show doesn't really give timing resolution good enough to judge one way or the other.

Hi thanks again. I don't think a high resolution is required. Except that I know nothing. But picture this. The sustain pedal comes on and stays on. That's it. I have to stop recording. The take is wrecked. It seems to me to be a gross/major error. The screen shot I posted is it working. I'll do another when it's not.

I didn't want to bring this into it but I've had the very same issue with earlier versions of PT (11, 12) with totally different MIDI gear and VST's. Like, enough to just stop working on the projects back then. Honestly it seems Garage Band would have been more effective <grin>!

Since you won't show or look in the MIDI event list for whatever reason grab the free snoize MIDI utility. Run it outside of PT and it will show you what's going on with your MIDI setup. The sustain pedal message might not even be getting to the computer. With the exception of one or two NI instruments I've not had a sustain pedal problem.

How is the Nektar connected to the computer? USB or 5 pin DIN connector? Maybe try flipping the polarity (if you can) on your sustain pedal and see what happens.

Have you already ruled out the infamous MIDI Merge issue?

It's not infamous enough that I've ever heard of it, or that it's easy to google... what is it? I have experienced this sticky sustain pedal on recording as well, the moves are recorded correctly but not performed correctly during the recording pass... very disconcerting when trying to play
