I'm not going to get into the Bombfactory debate because honestly, they make great stuff. I've been a fan of the UA plugins on the UAD1 card through my Nuendo PC setup and have been more than impressed. I've not had the chance to listen to the HD plugins though and really would like to get this done soon. I can tell you that my experience with their 1176 and LA2A plugins on the UAD1 really did perform like the real gear. I'm not talking it sounded like the real thing, I mean it performed like it too.... that is the sign of a great plugin model. To be fair, the BF plugins do this too. It's just nice to have some competition in the industry, competition brings change and it usually benefits the consumers in more ways than one.

Brad,

Point well taken. I know this can get thorny. Basically, I have been waiting for the Universal Plugs to come out to choose between them and the Bomb Factory plugs. Since Universal Audio is not providing demos on their site...can anyone make any suggestions either way. I am guessing that either way I will get a great product..

Hi,
As someone who owns both, IMO there is no comparison. The UA destroys the BF stuff. The UA plugins take a lot more DSP to run, but they really sound like the real deal. I have both the 1176 and LA2A hardware versions, and they are spot on. The BF stuff can be used more as an effect, but the UA really emulates the actual unit much, much more accurately. However, I do like the Joe Meek comp and Pultec from BF.

Just my opinion,

Stephen

So you think the Pultec from BF is better than the UA one?
