Default can some one please confirm?

when installing the cs2 update and the about section is clicked in pro tools is cs2 written next to 7.4 as im not sure if cs2 is installed properly when i did it as i see no referance to it unlike my pc where it is clearly displayed 7.4cs2

No. The CS prefix does not appear on the PT splash screen (whilst loading) or the about section. However, the applications section in the Apple System Profiler will detail the full version of PT installed.

thanks im on a very steep learning curve at the moment as it is my first ever mac from no previous experience

You can also use the "Get Info" function in the Finder (select the Pro Tools app. itself and hit cmd+I or choose "Get Info" in the File menu) and it will show you which version you are using. I mention this mainly because it's a useful Mac feature for any type of finder object (files, folders, drives, etc.).
