Question Motherboard and CPU under $350

Hello, I am looking at getting a new Motherboard and CPU at either www.tigerdirect.com or www.newegg.com

My current setup has gaven me nothing but trouble getting to work with PT 10

Here is what I am running now... It is more then enough power in other programs with loads of tracks and effects and it has worked great... JUST NOT ON PRO TOOLS

Mainboard : XFX MG-63MI-7109 INCOMPATIBLE WITH PT FYI!
Serial Number : To be filled by O.E.M.
BIOS : AMI (OEM) V1.5B3 02/25/2009
Total Memory : 2.88GB DIMM SDRAM
Processor : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6700 @ 2.66GHz (4C 2.67GHz/2.66GHz, 2x 4MB L2)

Here is a detailed descrpition of my awful experience...
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=316786

Again, I can't afford to spend a ton but I would like to have better performance for the sake of the upgrade... I can use my old board to process Video. I am hoping to simply put the C: Drive in and go as I have heard you can do this with Windows 7 easily.

What are your reccomendations for the best performing board with Pro Tools?

Yup.
Don't buy H67, Z68, H61. All 3 have been tested and failed often.

read the first page of this thread
http://duc.avid.com/showthread.php?t=238426

and copy one of the systems that are detailed there.

Wink Re: Motherboard and CPU under $350

Oh wow, thanks for the heads up. There is so much to consider getting pro tools to work. I have paged through the I7 guide and I will look some more. Do you have any recommendations for a Motherboard and Processor currently on www.Newegg.com that works well?

I wish to get both for around 3-350....

Thank you for your help... Since buying Pro Tools 10 my life has been hell trying to get this to work. I just want to get it working and move on with my life.

Seems like most boards have H67, Z68, H61... What are some newer approved chipsets?

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Gigabyte X58A UD3R and i7 9xx would be the obvious choice. I think it's possible to get for around $400. If you need something cheaper you can go with P67 and i5 2xxx. I'll try to post some known to work models later, I'm on th go right now...

This is what i'm using for a year now, used it on a few builds too.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813121511

I've also used this one.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131771

This cheaper one I have used but not for PT. It tests fine. It is rumored to work, but no DUC confirmation as of yet. At your own risk (though i'd seriously consider the tested Intel or Asus for the extra $40-50)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128488

The veteran DUCers will recommend this one
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128423
with this CPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115211
Its an obvious choice but that would be ~$460. and requires triple channel RAM that cost a bit more too. Its worth it if you can afford it.
