Default Reverting to Internal Clock

Hey Everybody, I have a big problem...I have an ADAT hooked up to my digi 002 via lightpipe. All the settings are correct, ADAT set to internal, Pro Tools session at 16-bit 48kHz, cables are good, etc. etc. Pro Tools 6.0.2, yada yada yada...when I go to hardware settings and select ADAT as the clock source, it says External Clock Source Invalid, Reverting to Internal Clock. What does that mean and what is the solution. When the clock is set to internal, all I get are pops and clicks when trying to play the ADAT into the Digi 002. Any suggestions?
Ben

It means the incoming clock is invalid.. usually because either:

a) the cable is bad or not plugged in correctly

or

b) the option for RCA/Lightpipe S/PDIF is set wrong in Pro Tools.

i used to have this problem sometmes as well. i used to clean the ends of my optic cables with cotten gauss and alcohol. sometimes it worked. i just remember it being a pain in the arse. there is a slight possibilty your ADAT could be in 44.1 mode. if i remember correctly its some sort of button combination on startup but im not sure. you may also want to try hooking up both the in and the out and just using the digi as the main sync. if i remember correctly you can do that. im not sure i havent used one in forever actually im trying to forget.
