Default Monitoring track before punch in

I apologize in advance for how ridiculous this question may be. I have dilligently searched, but I, in my very new and very limited knowledge of PT am stumped. From what I can gather, if you have a track enabled for recording, you cannot hear it on playback. I suppose that this is fine except that when I am wanting to do punch in/out recording on the track I would very much like to monitor it for accurate and efficient punching in/out. Is this just simply the way it is with PT or am I just missing something? Any help would be most greatly appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

What interface are you using, and which version of protools?
There are different ways to do this, depending on what you have.
Assuming you are on protools standard (not HD, not CPTK, no green 'I' button next to the record-enable and solo buttons) you might want to check under the options menu and play with the auto-input/input-only option.

Hope this helps,
John

Thanks for the reply, John. I'm using the MOTU Audio Express on PT 10 standard. I'll try what you suggested. Thanx again.

Jerry
