Default random pitch/tempo change, post recording. help!

I've just installed pro tools mbox2 LE 8.0.3 on my Mac os 10.5.8. I've been attempting to record clean guitar D.I as a test and upon playback, the reigon is either raised, or lowered in pitch with no particular pattern to it. in addition, the tempo is affected accordingly, if the pitch is higher the tempo is also etc. this affects the click track in the same way even though the tempo bar hasn't changed from 120!

I have read through the forums to find similar issues as mine. the closest being conflicting sample rates between the session and the audio files, causing pitch fluctuation. HOWEVER.. nothing changes wether I load a 44.1 or 48khz session. and as for the DI audio, how do I know what sample rate it is? plz halp!

Do you have any device attached to the Mbox SPDIF input? I agree that it sounds like a sample rate issue, and I wonder if the Mbox itself may be bad(unstable clock). The inputs(converters) work at whatever sample rate the session is set for-UNLESS there is a digital device that is clocking at a different rate(like a SPDIF preamp that is set to 48K, will force the session to playback at 48K, even though it was created at 44.1K).

no nothing plugged in the mbox other than DI. I doubt the hardware is faulty as I regularly use it without a single hitch on my pc. only since using on my Mac these issues arose. ok I'm not sure what a SPDIF pre amp would be, I checked the phantom power button and it's not on. after another attempt of guitar tracking it went fine, no pitch or tempo shift, but following that another session, it [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep]ed up again.. with identical session parameters. nothing I try works

im not sure if youre asking if ive enabled it? or wanting me to try it. this pitch issue happens with blank sessions, no elastic audio tracks enabled. either way elastic audio wouldnt be the permanent fix to this problem
