hi, but you still need USB power right ?? so you are tied to a short leash .. it is too bad that we cannot put the power on the ethernet line itself and not have to use USB power .. i want to have an ethernet cable and be able to walk 40 feet away ... or cable father than USB power can go ..

I do this with my iPad Pro and have a powered USB hub.

*Ah, didn't realise it was the new USB 3 one!

i have the USB2 camera adapter, "480Mbps."
works by using an additional powered USB2.0 Hub, + Apple USB Ethernet adapter. "100Mbps."

but...

a dedicated router, forced/configured to the fastest speed possible,
works as good, and less annoying that having a bunch of cables hanging like an anchor.

on a very dense/cluttered/crowded WiFi area, "all channels used", Ethernet is definitively better.

USB Ethernet adapter has 100Mbps,
some WiFi routers & latest iPads can go faster.

the New USB3 camera adapter speed is limited by the old: 100Mbps, Apple USB Ethernet Adapter.
the new USB3 is just easy to power.

Ipad 4 i have has: Wi-Fi 802.11/n at 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.

a Router with configurable MCS can go faster than 100Mbps,
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_8...009#Data_rates

problem is WiFi never goes at 100%,
but Ethernet Always can, if the cable is CAT6
USB2.0 Data Rate is usually 50%, maximum i´ve seen 58%.

For simply sending control data, you're not going to need anywhere near 100Mbps so that's not an issue.

I've found the latency is far lower, even using an AdHoc Wifi network caused a significant delay, the Pro Tools Control app was stuttering lots and the clock didn't run smoothly either.

I don't care about cables if I get better performance.

Same here, but PT HD 12.4 and the old USB2 camera connection kit with an active USB hub.

it's too bad apple doesnt have an adapter where you can plug in the internet and CHARGE your ipad at the same time. once you get that connector connected you can't charge anymore. i know android has this.

The new one charges as well, just make sure it's plugged into a power adapter rather than a USB socket
