I've been reading this thread for months now and I have learned quite a bit. Thanks to all of you, I decided to change from my cakewalk setup and build a new system for protools LE. I was going to buy a 001 system and was waiting for the XP upgrade before I built the computer according to Allen's specs, then the 002 was introduced.
I decided to wait and purchase a 002. Now I hear that the 002 is shipping. My question is does anyone know what computer components will be best? I'd like to build it according to Allen's specs if there are any. This is a great user group. I'm looking forward to contributing.
Thank's again everyone!

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Hey Brian,
The A7V333 motherboard setup on page one is already digi002 ready. Get the one with onboard firewire.
Good luck,

I just have a quick question. There have been several Motherboards that I've noticed that people are using. I've seen the A7V8X, A7V333, A7M266(needs bios upgrade), GA7VRX, and the MSIKT3.

It seems that most people are using the A7V333 per Allen's suggestios. Is there a reason why people are using this Mobo more than they are using the rest of the other Mobos? Is it a performance issue? stability? Cost basis? I'm looking to buy a new Mobo and my choices would come from those listed above. Which one of these boards would be the best buy for my $$$ and for future upgrades?

Thanks to all in advance.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The refurbished A7V333 on www.newegg.com or the MSI board with the KT333 chipset both work great. The A7V333 comes with onboard firewire in the RAID version so it is Digi002 ready.

Hello,
I was just curious. Is there any special reason for recommending the Evercase?
Specifications say it is 'screwless'. Does this include the motherboard?
How does this case fare concerning noise?
Currently I have a Palo Alto ATCX case. Would it be worthwhile to change cases?
Thank you for your input.

J

I just bought a Visiontek Xtasy 40X12X48 CDRW with Nero for $50 at Best Buy that shows up in my devices list as Lite-on Model LTR 40125S. I think it's the same unit as the RTL 40125S that Allen recommends, and that the letters are transposed on the Newegg website. If so, then Best Buy is another source for that burner at a good price.

Hi Allen,
I ordered the parts according to your specs, to build the computer for the 002 (that I don't have just yet). I just wanted to thank you for all of your help. You are a very generous person.
Thanks again,
Brian

Has anyone used the a7v333 with the 002 yet?
The specs state that the 333 $ 400 via chipsets were not tested and only the 266a chipsets were supported.
I am changing my tune regarding digi products.
The 002 with the bundled software that actually works with the os most people are using is literally "the cat's ass".

I'm planning on an A7V333 with a 2600 (when they actually ship). But I do admit to being a bit nervous regarding being the test "Guinea pig" with that mobo and a Digi 002.

I can report that a Athlon 2100, A7V266-E and an Adaptec 4300 PCI firewire card (which are all on the Digidesign "approved" list) work flawlessly with the Digi 002.
