Default External Processor?

This seemed like best thread for my question. I have been looking at the UA Apollo Quad interface because of its processing capabilities. That led me to wonder if there are any products out there that could act as an additional processor for my iMac, much like the Apollo, where I could load and run a boatload of plugins without fear of processor meltdown? Does not necessarily need to be an interface, just an external processor. Does something like that exist? You can see my setup below in my signature.

Not a wholesale system that would work for every/anything.

There is:
Waves new DigiGrid system for there plugs
HD/HDX cards in a chassis for a lot of other plugs

I'm not sure but are you thinking in the way of Muse Receptor?

Or running VEP on another host?

Just throwing ideas out there....

In addition to the above suggestions, you could add more UAD processing if you have an open FW connection(or maybe with an external chassis like the Magma boxes, connected via Thunderbolt).

Need to do more reading but I think the UAD Satellite is exactly that. Kind of the Apollo without the interface. Wonder if I could hook that up in chain with my external HD's without much hassle. Be really nice if I could just hookup a Mac mini dedicated to my plugins and let that do the work.
