How to set up a live audio feed for a radio broadcast
We are fairly new to Pro Tools. We are running Pro Tools 9 on a PC and we have the MBOX Pro 3rd Gen. We have been recording on our system for several months. Now we have a situation where we are going to be on a live radio show. We want to run intruments and vocals through our pro tools set up and connect to the DJ's set up. It is an internet radio program and is run right from the DJ's computer.
Any advice on how to run connections? How do we set up a session? Do we have to record to get our sound out of the monitors? Can we get sound out of the monitors for the musicians and also have a separate output running to the DJ? We have many many questions and want to know the best and easiest way to get what we need. The set up is a vocal mic, acoustic guitar running directly into the Mbox, Bass and keyboard also running right in and a percussion player who will be miked, prefferably with 2 mics, but we will work with one if necessary. Does anyone have any experience with Pro Tools and a set up similar to this? We'd greatly appreciate any help or advice. Thanks |

I would suggest you skip the DJs streaming software and run everything into a Barix Exstreamer. The Barix will stream to just about any computer with an internet connection. it's easy to setup it doesn't lose it setting if/when something plugged. There at for sure other ways to do this, but I've found running the Mains and streaming a stareo mix is the easiest and least taxing on resources.

Re: How to set up a live audio feed for a radio broadcast
Set up just like you would to record the group. If you don't wish to record the performances, you could use Aux tracks instead of Audio tracks. But audio tracks in record monitor would work just the same.
Run the main outs from the Mbox to the DJ's sound card or audio interface input. It may require a cable you don't have, such as dual 1/4" to stereo mini. It depends on what the DJ has for inputs. Special cables like that can be purchased from Radio Shack. You may be able to monitor from the DJ's speakers, or you may need to send each track both to your monitor system and to his sound card/interface. That can be done by holding down the Start key while choosing an additional output with the output selector of each track.
