Confused about purchasing pro tools!! help! What do I need?!

Hi there,

I love pro tools, and have always edited on it. I now want to purchase the programme myself, and am wondering what is exactly I need? I am buying it mainly to put audio that I have already recorded onto it so I don't want to have to buy a huge desk etc. I am using it for radio purposes. I was wondering if somebody could advise me as what I need to get in order to run the programme on my computer. (I have a mac) Ideally I just want the program alone without all the equipment, but I have heard this is not possible.

If I just got an m box then would the program work? Also, where would be the best place to get the box from etc?

Hi Amy & WELCOME to the DUCZ!!!


OK so I guess u don't know that the software comes free with all & any hardware purchased with the exception of m-audio/m-powered; So in other words u must have Hardware to run any PT software...

So as to what u need, that would be hardware, & a compatible computer for PT8 so with that being said, u may wanna post ur computer specs(which/what Mac u have/OS etc...)

Well a box & Hardware are 1 in the same actually... Please make sure u read up on the different versions(Essentials/M-Powered/LE); Obviously cost tells a story so with that being said u get VERY LIMITED USE with that bundle that ur looking @ which is fine if that is what u want; Just making u aware of it though...

Would the essentials allow me to still play around with sound/pitch/speed etc? I only want to edit and so am not so worried about recording into the program.

ahhh I am so confused. I am a student you see, and have always used Pro-tools but my lecturers are going to make us use avid, which I refuse to use and so I want to buy pro tools in some form!

Avid (Now I'm confused) Avid is Digidesign &/or vice versa(however u wanna look @ it)

As for Elastic pitch or audio, I don't believe Essentials have those features...

oh dear its been a long day already.........I mean adobe audition not avid!!!! oops!!

ahh I see, I need to do some more looking into it, but I believe I can pay for an upgrade on the essentials one to the m-audio 8 or something!?
