Melodyne has just released a new technology called "Direct Note Access". You can now edit polyphonic audio
just like midi files. I've never seen something like this: http://www.celemony.com/cms/index.php?id=dna |

Seems to good to be true, I wonder how CPU intensive it will be.

Actually, they haven't released it yet, but the demo video does look pretty sweet. I wonder how they justify saying "no change in sound quality" when there clearly IS a change in sound quality, apparent even in the demo. Probably the same thing that makes them say "MeeDee" instead of MIDI... all in all though, a pretty giant leap in technology.

I agree with Slim on the the MeeDee sound aspect but, the fact that this is possible is quite astonishing. So now you really don't need to know how to play anymore! All those years of classical guitar......down the drain
I think not but it certainly opens up many production possibilities |

It remains to be seen (well heard) how the software copes with 'real world' situations. I suspect that the audio for the demo was carefully tested (or even recorded specially).
That said, if it's half as good as claimed, then for the price of the loyalty upgrade, it's gotta be worth a punt. http://www.myspace.com/philogg |

Really, would anyone NOT upgrade? I sure will...
I'd like to think that even if it doesn't work all that well on creating new rhythms or changing notes without noticeable degradation, that it will at least be able to correct a few intonation problems or slightly out-of-tune chords. That by itself, would be an extremely valuable production tool.

I'll be coppin' it as soon as they release it! But it should be free to previous owners of the Melodyne Plugin 1. Or at least $49. Do you know what we can do with this thing though?
Man, they just changed the game again. Thanks Celemony! |
