Blackmagic Desktop Video Software v10.1.1 Update

Just got some info from BM support. They said that they are aware of the increased delay since the 10.6.6 driver. They are working with AVID for a fix. They said that it's partly because of how PT speaks to the BM driver.

They said they'd let me know once they've improved the delay. Probably needs both a PT and BM update.

P.S: Since working with the 10.7.1 driver I haven't had a single "can't stop" error or other related AVE lockup.

I've had just a couple. Had to restart PT both times. I'm currently editing dialogue so lots of little starts and stops. That always seems to trip it up no matter the version of PT or BM. But overall more stable. The huge delay really sucks when scrubbing or playing half-speed.

Just a heads up in case you haven't tried this. When I get the video engine run-on I find I can still access the setup page, and if I change the buffer setting the engine will stop and I can continue without a restart. I'm on PC, so it may work differently on Mac, but might be worth a try.

I posted this in another thread but I tested the new black magic driver (10.8.1) for about 15 minutes at the end of the day yesterday without an error which is kind of a miracle for me. Video and audio stay in sync like the BM 10.4.3 driver.

I will do more tests next week.

Interesting. Even though they have been listing PT11&12 compatibility for quite a while now. Even for the versions that were bad.

Curious to see what you find. Does it still have the massively increased offset compared to 10.4.3 or did they fix that?

When doing the test, the video offset was 20 quarter frames. The same as with the BM 10.4.1 driver.
It use to be 12 quarter frames when using Pro Tools 12.4.

I'm still using 10.7.1 until I get a good chance to try the newest driver.

But I noticed by accident that the huge ~250ms delay does not occur when I'm working at 29.97fps. Almost all of my work is at 23.98fps so I hadn't noticed before.

So I'm curious as well, since BlackMagic knows about it if it is fixed.
