Default MP3 Option adds silence to start of file

I'm trying to make a simple loop into a MP3. Everytime it adds a tiny bit of silence to the start of my file which causes the loop to be out of sync. I have tried a number of different combinations in the MP3 export dialogue box, but nothing seems to work. When I save the file as a Sound Designer file there is no silence added. I would really appreciate it if anyone can help me with this problem. Thank you.

Read recently that that is normal. The cure seems to be to use a MP3 editor to remove the silence. There are apparently shareware editors available. Maybe someone here has a suggestion...

Thanks for the reply Mike. That is really disappointing to hear. First I have to fork over an extra $20 to buy the MP3 Option and now it doesn't even help me acheive what I need. Can anyone suggest a good editor for me to get?
Thanks,
Groovy

I don't know how good the quality of the ProTools mp3 encoder is, but I've found that the best sound MP3s I've heard used the LAME encoder.

You can download a LAME encoder plugin for iTunes on versiontracker.com

Then bounce to AIFF, import that into iTunes, and convert to mp3 with LAME. Use -alt preset extreme, and you'll be happy.

A follow up...

"Audion" has the LAME encoder and waveform MP3 editing.
http://www.panic.com/audion/

Quicktime Pro reportedly allows for MP3 editing

Why the silence?

Hope this helps,

maybe i should start a new topic -- but do any of you guys know how to convert aif files to aac? itunes 4 does it, but you have to use osx (i'm an os9 user -- and while i COULD launch my ibook in osx, i'm a bit superstitious -- not wanting to screw antying up w/my os9 digi002/ptle setup!).
