Default delay when pressing record or stopping record

Hi, I have 1814, ptmp7, emachines 6805 with 768 ram, etc. When I start to record or stop after recording, it takes protools a long time to respond (about a minute). What are some things I should check out? A friend had this problem with le7 and closing mcafee solved it. I had mcafee shut off as far as I know, but I unisntalled it tonight, maybe that will help. Time ran out on the session so I couldn't test if that helped or not. I also got my TI chipset firewire card tonight, but after the session. I will be using it again on Saturday and Sunday, so any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Check your Open Ended Record Allocation and make sure it's not set to "Use All Available Space". I usually set it to 10 minutes unless I'm doing a super long session.

I'm having this same problem... it's terribly frustrating in the middle of doing sessions for people.

i reboot... turn everything off then on again..

Session is normal speed.
Take 2- it's a little slow on response.
Take 3 - slower to actually play the music after I hit play.
Take 4 - even slower.
by the 5th time I stop or start, it's now taking up to a FULL MINUTE just to play!

Yet, it's ONLY in RECORD ENABLED mode. Take it off , it plays instantly everytime.

What's causing this?

It used to be my NORTON that caused this (because in the background it was scanning each take as I did them)... but after I deleted Norton, it changed everything and has been working perfectly for months ... until the last week or so.

Problem is back!

HELP!

Changing the open ended allocation solved this- even set at 60 minutes. No delays. Now if I could get the crackles, pops, and clicks taken care of with my 1814 that would be fantastic.

Usually crackles are clock related, it's worth checking what you are resolving to.

Not a clock problem- it was only on sustained notes, some other issues. Seems to have been aproblem having the 1814 and firewire drive on the same bus and also the via firewire chipset in my laptop. USB2 hard drive seems to have fixed the noise issue.
