Avalon U-5 ?

I'm thinking about buying the avalon u-5 direct box, anyone have any opinions about this unit? thanks

very nice box. makes guitars and bass sound reasonably full and rich. i NEVER use the filters.

is it the BEST? well....

i personally like my Millenia TD-1 better -- not only for the feautres of being able to easily feed both a DI and an unbalanced to an amp (can't do that with the Avalon), but for it re-amp features AND it's mic pre AND its tube or SS AND it's EQ AND, especially, its SOUND!

I like them a lot.

Like Tom, I avoid the filters, which aren’t that useful. You can get better (more appropriate) results with EQ, post-tracking. They have lots of headroom (30+!) and are on the clean side of things.

Tip: Avoid the “Line Level Out,” which sounds anemic and closed in, and use the more traditional “Mic Level Out” instead, in conjunction with a Mic Pre.

I also own a range of DIs (Manley, Radial, etc.), and the U5s are an irreplaceable component of my sonic palette.
