Cabinet Mics
What mics is everyone using to mic their guitar & bass cabinets???
I'm not talking about the expensive mics either, I'm talking about mics that are below the $500 US range. Cheers. |

Re: Cabinet Mics
you could try Audix D3 for guitars and D4 for bass cabs. Longtime fave 57 does both, as does a Sennheiser MD421 or 409. Anything is good...

Bass: Again the 409/609, Shure Beta 52, AKG C4000B. |

Re: Cabinet Mics
For the bass tone on Ripping at the seams located at ASYLUMOGRAPHY I used an oktava 012, a D112 and a 57 on some hartke cabs. D112 was on the 15, 012 on the 6 inch, and the 57 on the tens. Love the 57 on the tens. It growls! Check it out.

Re: Cabinet Mics
Studio Projects C1 has revolutionised my cabinet recording!
I always thought that my previous metods didnt give enough low end. I used 57’s, 421’s, backmicing, room mics, whatever. No low end (not enough). This is on el. guitars. I always "solved" it by dubbing the guitars and it gave the illusion of a richer sound. The C1 gave a totally different sound the first time I tried it. Perfect. No need for EQ, lots more dynamics, fat sound just close-micing.

Re: Cabinet Mics
I was so blown away with my C1 in the studio I'm using one for my live stuff as well. It really gives me the up front and in your face sound that I was looking for. I just picked up a matched set of the C1's to try for overheads. They are definately cheap enough.

Re: Cabinet Mics
We tend to use SM57's on guitar and an AKG D-112 and a DI for bass.
