Not sure if it is any different on earlier versions of Sherlock, but in OS 9.1:

Open Sherlock 2 (Command F on the desktop or in the Finder)

In the menu bar, under Find, Index Volumes (or Command L in Sherlock)

You probably can do it just by unchecking the box under Use Schedule next to your hard drive or other storage device, but I did it this way:

Click on the Schedule button, and uncheck all of the days of the week.

You can also remove the File Indexing extensions from your Extensions folder.

FWIW, the indexing screen came up for me last night while I was playing back a 64 track session with video, and it kept right on playing.

Probably a good idea to disable it, but it evidently is not that intrusive.

It happened during a recording and since I didn´t know if it would cause any problem I stopped. I will turn it off. I use 9.2.1

You know what?

This damn indexing has been my nemesis for months. I thank you all for this tidbit!! I've had this interrupt sessions doing layback to DAT/MD thru Jam - shuts down, stops playback, so thanks digi and PeeTee!

you can just change the time it indexes to when your very unlikely to be using your system. I don't know many musicians who want to record at say 6 am
