Default frequency dependant ducking compressor kick & bass

Hi,
sidechain - ducking - keying

Looking for a way in pro tools to duck frequencys like a de-esser, but used on a bass track dependent on low frequency sound.

sidechain kick drum to bass track - pick eq curve (like de-ess) - attenuate only 100hz or around there so when the kick goes only the freqs simular are dropped...

any ideas ?

all other 'keying' settings seem to attenuate the whole track and not designated frequencys...
I've tried duplicating the tracks and separating the frequency bands with EQ.. but it doesnt sound all that great...

appreciate any help

i was going to recomend MC200 as its been the only multi band ive liked then i relised it doesnt have a side chain and it had me thinking what good multibands are there with a side chain but i couldnt come up with any. however what you can do is put the to tracks on a stereo track, boost the level of the track you want to be the key and there you have a basic side chained multiband. not as much control as you a real side chain but it does the job.

Hi, found this on a google search.

I remembered that the Pro Tools compressor the Dyn3 has high and low pass filters for the external side-chain. These work really well.

Thought i'd share this in case in anyone else was wondering.

if you want to do it using one plug-in : McDSP AE400

Alternatively, for free, you could use a Pre-Fader Send on the Kick Drum, sending it to an Aux track.

On that Aux track, insert an EQ, and boost 100Hz excessively (narrow Q).

Set the output of the Aux to a bus, to be used only as the side-chain.

On the Bass track, place Pro Tool Dynamics III Compressor, activate the side-chain (obviously fed from the bus being output by the Aux), and adjust the compression to taste.

Melda dynamic EQs can do this. Avid Pro multiband dynamics as well.

A dynamic EQ is what you're looking for. HOFA IQ-EQ can do the job as well. I'm loving it big time. Also multiples as a killer eq and/or multiband compressor.

The Avid Pro Compressor will do this... allows freq-dependent side-chaining... sounds great & works well.
Additionally the Pro Multiband dynamics will also do it, but prob overkill for kik-bass...

Thing is, even with a filtered sidechain a broadband compressor will compress the entire signal. If the goal is to compress only the low end of a signal by feeding the sidechain with another signal, you need a dynamic EQ or multiband compressor.
