Default Software Updates - Mac OSX and best practices

General question here as I await my 003 and play with my new mac pro. My last mac didn't have internet access and was dedicated solely to protools. I got it set up on pt 5 and 0S9 five years ago and i never updated anything. It worked (well until it stopped working and thus the upgrade). However, my new mac has a wireless card and the thing is out on its own looking for software updates. I didn't think much of this as my PC does this all the time. Then i realized the latest version of osx isn't approved for PT. So, my questions are:

1) It looks like there are work arounds for new macpros with 10.4.10 (the latest version). I'm assuming having the latest version isn't a deal killer for PT from what i've read even though it is not fully approved. I see this version has been out since June. Any idea when PT would normally approve a new version?

2) What do you do to avoid having your mac automatically upgrade the software? Do you disable that?

3) On a total off topic question - I know macs don't get viruses but what do you do for a firewall?

thanks

HI,

1)only digidesign knows that

2) select Software update from the System Prefs and uncheck the automatic update option

3) select "Sharing" from the System Prefs an activate the Firewall Services.
Though Macs a virtually viri free it´s nice to be friendly to Windows users
and use at least a virus checker like this one : http://www.clamxav.com/
to check your stuff before sharing.
