You do not get a certificate by taking the free online 101 test. Digidesign has a whole "school", if you will. I took the 101 class, 110, 201M and 210P, then 210M and 210P, and 310M and 310P course (each with their own exam afterwards). Once you complete the course and pass all of those exams (if not more), you can get an "operator" or "expert" certification (in music and/or post-production), depending on completion of the 2xx and/or 3xx course and exams.

I wouldn't say there are negative aspects of getting a certificate, it's just expensive. Look at the "training courses" on the digi site. Hope that helps.

Ah okay, thanks.

How come in the back of the book it has a picture of a certificate for the 101 and 110 classes?

And you can really take the 101 test online? I saw that when searching thru this site. I wish I knew that before taking the 101 class. I learned only a few small basic things that I still haven't used yet. Not to mention the money and the time wasted. I cant take the rest of the tests without enrolling in a class huh? Well [bleep][bleep][bleep][bleep] it I dont wanna waste time barely even learning anything again.

I've known a few people that have "bypassed" the 101 course by passing the free 101 exam online. That's saving hundreds of dollars right there. There's a picture of the certificate because it's advertisement for their courses. Unless, they've changed something that I'm unaware of?

On the other hand, I thought I knew a lot before taking the courses. I came out knowing 10 other ways to do the same thing, but most of them were much more efficient than my old way. Efficiency is key! I've never had to sync picture from a deck before, I've never had to work on an HD rig even. Coming out of the courses, knowing real working scenarios and knowing everything from setting it up to making it work to breaking it down... priceless knowledge if you want to do this as a career. Because I never was given the opportunity before the courses, I thought I was already "top of my class", but it was 1st grade.

You don't know what you don't know, and I mean that in the most helpful way possible. Confidence is one thing, but I still live by this motto every day, in other aspects as well.

Normally the way this works is you enroll in a school to take the classes you want and, once you pass the test, they issue you a certificate of completion. Your school would issue the certificate for completion of the 101 exam.

Note these only represent completion of a given course--they are not a certification of merit, as with our PT Operator and Expert certification, which require completion of multiple courses and passing of each associated exam.

I Count Monaco, hereby certify all of you as 1337 Pro Tools h4X0rs.

Print the certificate below and write your name in it and display it on your fridge.
