I hate stupid websites! The link takes you to HP's website but there is no where to see if the laptop brings HDMI out or firewire, or any info on peripherals! what kind of bull is that?

That's odd, I found it immediately, under "Specs." It has both HDMI and Firewire.

I ended up buying a 15.6" MSI A6200 from Office Depot. It has an i5, 4gb of ram and it's a pretty sweet deal at $599. Can't test it with Pro Tools yet, though, as I've got 7.4 and this is running windows 7 32-bit. I'm going to order an M-box Mini this week, then I'll run a D-Verb test and let you guys know how it went. If not, I'll just install XP on it and go from there.

I also saw this HP DV-4, which is a 14.1" and has an i5, for a pretty good deal as well ($649 after rebates):

I finally decided against the HP due to a problem I had with the DV2000 I had and the way HP handled it. Or didn't. I chose not to reward poor customer service, but YMMV.

I haven't myself, but with all the issues I've heard with performance NVidia cards in the short time I've been here I wouldn't recommend a gaming laptop to run PT.

That said, If you have the bucks to go Alienware, there are a lot of other ways you could spend that money, including getting a machine on or close to the specs on the recommended PT list.

Just got my M-box mini, hopefully I'll be able to test out the MSI soon. I guess I'll have to look up the new version of the D-verb test to compare numbers. Real busy with an album I'm finishing mixing but hopefully in the next week or two I can post up some numbers that'll help. Or maybe it won't work! Yay! Fun!

Oh and regarding Dell, I was forced to mix this on an ancient Dell laptop... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDmSRTXsITk Yeah, I know it has issues but the whole thing was done on a Dell that was probably five years old and it got done!

I'm trying to decide to pull the trigger on this dell myself. Anyone got any words of suggestions? Dell isn't my first choice, but I have financing through them so. I want something I can feel comfortable buying and something I can feel comfortable growing into with my Pro Tools 8 LE. Any help would be much appreciated I'm trying to decide this today! thanks
