Default New 15 Macbook Pro + PT12?

Anyone had any experience on the new 15inch MBP regarding PT performance.

I understand that I will need a dock for connectivity.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Sitting at swedens airport Arlanda with that exact model which i bought today and installed PTHD 12.8.2 and mixing a Pretty big hitsong which needed a remix version for sundays MTV award show consert and everything runs just great.

219 tracks loads of VI and plugins and many many automation edits. Two thumbs up!

No issues with High Sierra even and i am playing with melodyne 4 and no lag, errors or hiccups

The current MBP limitation for me is the 16GB memory. Definitely max out the SSD as you can’t upgrade that later... and it’s fast SSD.

Sounding good so far. Anyone else have any experiences with this model?

I will be replacing a 2013 MBP 2.3 / I7 with 16G ram and 512 SSD. Not looking forward to dongle / port connections but I'm starting to get concerned about the age of my current rig.

This one is maxed out to the fullest and I have to say 16GBis enough as there is many ways to maximize those 16GB with commit/freeze and bonce downto audio However I am sitting with a HUUUGE session and have not had any issues yet. Disk cache works great too so honestly this sessionruns equal with oneofour nMP 64 GBram inthe studio and I amat the gate mixing a song for MTV Europe Award Show with a MBP sitting in my lap which is quite astonishing

This new Mac is insanely fast. It's a big difference to the nMP's andour two MBP's from 2014 that will be used for surfing the web andwatch movies from now on.

I agree they are nice (I have one) but 16 GB in a ~$4K laptop is a bit sad.

That is 100% agreed with. Should atleast have the option to go 32 or even 64 GB when we pay that price. Converted from Swedish to USD I paid almost 5000 dollars and would have liked to have an option to get 32 GB so these workarounds wouldn't be necessary.

Just bought a late 2016 MBP TB3 15" 2.7 i7 quad w/512GB SSD and 2GB dedicated GDDR5 video RAM. Price was cut by $700 from intro price of $2,799. $2,099 with no sales tax and free shipping pressed my button. Check out B&H.

Not really likely the MBPs will suddenly become available with 32GB, limited by its laptop design. They might not weigh in at 4# if that ever happens.

Already had some TB2 interfaces and external TB2 RAID bays. Bought a USB USB-C G-Technology 512GB external for $149. Paid more than twice that for a G-Technology USB 3.0 512GB external SSD less than a year ago.

And the TB3 to TB2 adapter is $49. Eek! My RAID boxes have twin TB2 ports, nonetheless, might be an OWC dock in my future.

There is a slight speed bump between the 2016 Skylake and 2017 Kaby Lake models, but this vintage will work for me for now. Both years have the PCIe 3.0 bus.
