Default Ping?

Just curious.....

When i launch PTLE, my pc needs to output a "ping" (the windows sound) out of my soundblaster. If that is not possible, it will show me a "cant acquire hardware" box, and run anyway, with no problems.

I was wondering why it is doing this.
