Default Dual core problems with old 6.x rig. Affinity problem.

Once apon a time people were using 6.x with their spankin' new shinny dual core machines. In my case an Athlon 64X2 rig running 3.0 ghz each. Yummy right? Well as we all remember PT 6.x doesn't support multiple cores which makes me sad, and since I don't wanna buy new hardware and update all my plugs I'm stuck with single core Pro Tools action. Which really my friends is all I REALLY need anyhow seeing as I just did a wicked track/plugs test and got more then enough tracks recording at 24/48 and then played them back with 96 plugins inserted. But....

I had loads of trouble getting it to behave as I had forgotten about the whole multiple core issue and that you have to configure PT to use one core only. To make matters worse I reverted to an old version (6.4) while troublshooting and as you remember with XP if you don't install the cs update you get the blue screen of death when you launch LE. This just added insult to injury. So finally after much research here I 'got learnt' about it and downloaded a little app to help me handle my multiple core duties. I can isolate PT on its own core and everything it ducky... for a while. Then for some unknown reason the affinity will revert back to using both cores and PT will give me the finger. Mid session.

It took me a while to figure this out and unfortunately it happened while I was tracking a live show and we lost the first set. I was sad. Did I mention I honestly hate Pro Tools for all the grief Its given me over the years? If it were for the whole industry compatibility thing I'd put it all up on TheBay right now. It's like at least once every 6 months since I've had it something goes horribly wrong and I have to spend days troubleshooting and researching here. Why do I still have it? No Idea.

So anyway, any old skoolers remember this problem form a few years ago pre 7.0? Multiple core cpu's reverting back to using both cores on you and stopping Pro Tools in its' tracks?

Anybody??

Maybe?
