You guys are twisted.......maybe that's why I keep coming back So..........back to one of the previous questions. You said something about doing overdubs at a higher buffer and someone asked if that was meant to be lower....so which is it. Just curious about latency/buffer info as the demo I sat thru claimed that HD/Native at 128 buffer felt better than any firewire interface at 64 buffer

Technically both

In this point I meant higher buffer. Easily function in a higher buffer rate w/o latency issues. It definitely feels less than FireWire interfaces. With FireWire I needed to track at 64 most of the time. Rarely could I get away w 128 w/o complaints. This can do it w/o a problem. Plus having LLM back if needed (was using non avid interface so LLM not available) means I can get the buffer way higher if needed for an overdub or something.

I can't say 128 feels better w this than 64 on FireWire. They are both completely usable though!! It has its other advantages like hardware compensation if you mix w outboard that I have been taking advantage of big time since getting it. I could use hardware before but I had to be cautious of routing and how I inserted it as doing parallel compression or different things could cause phase problems. Those issues are gone which has been very nice.

^^^ all of the above^^^

With the HDN card 128 is fine for me.

Of course with HDX, I no longer ever think about latency.

Someone said the latency the singer hears is different from the latency the engineer hears because of the singers headvoice.

The singer hears both their headvoice and the signal passing through the system and finally coming out of the headphones. If there is to much latency/delay it might affect timing and pitch performance in a bad way.

I try to minimize latency by tracking with direct monitoring through my omni.
