Default PT8 fresh install

I've searched the forum and while I see hints I can't find an answer to an easy question. Is the boxed version of PT8 LE which is labeled as an upgrade functional as a stand alone version? Can I put it on a Mac that's never had PT on it? It seems that I can based on some references to removing prior versions. But if that's the case, why is it called an upgrade whereas the M powered version (which sells for $100 more) is not called an upgrade?

It is a standalone installer, no previous version needed.

It is just semantics as to weather it should be called an "upgrade" or not..
Since it has a bunch of new features, upgrade is fine with me...

Thanks.

Any idea why PT8 M-powered is $250 whereas LE is only $150?

Maybe because it is a standalone purchase anyway? IDK

Where are you reading that? The M-Powered upgrade should be $150, just like LE.

HD, on the other hand, is $250.

M-powered at $250 from Guitar Center

LE at $150 from Guitar Center

Unless there is a difference that I can't find....

That first link to M-Powered is for the full version installer that includes the iLok key.

The upgrade from a previous version should be $149 - it requires that you have the full version as you have to surrender your previous version iLok license when you upgrade to Pro Tools 8. Here's a link to the upgrade on the Digistore:

Pro Tools M-Powered Upgrade on the Digistore

The second is, indeed, an upgrade to Pro Tools LE 8.

So is Digi ever going to sell a version of PT8 LE on disc that I can install on a Mac that has never had PT on it? The download doesn't interest me.

I already have PT LE 7.3 on a PC.

I think it is already available at the Digi store, but it costs you $30 extra. I'm not happy about that, either.

I have heard that is is available at resellers, but haven't checked prices..

Flommer is correct on that point - you can get the installer DVD's here:

I'm curious - is there a particular reason you're not interested in the download?
