Default 001 and 002 compare

well im running a mac g4 1ghz...60 gig hd...512 ram...and with the 001 on osx 6.0 the thing runs like a million bucks man...im using the art pro ch mic pre...and with the event 20/20 you cant go wrong...now i did have the 002 for like three days...and took it back for the 001...not much different in sound at all....dont let the hype fool you on that...the mic pres on the 002 are infact colorless....i heard a mix with music studio 5 or something and a sound blaser card..and he was a seasoned mixer...he made a very good mix with it...and the novice with the 002 couldnt come close to it....my point is that ..the 002 isnt all that..the 001 just as good..but with less mic pres...and please dont bring up the 96k thing because unless your computer is a monster..you wont really get much out of 96k but maybe 8 tracks and latency up the arse.....i record at 24 bits 48k and mix to 16 44.1 sounds like a dam good red book cd....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">I disagree...I think the converters in the 002 sound noticeably better than those in the 001, as do the preamps...colorless isn't necessarily a bad thing, especially in comparison to preamps that have a coloration most people aren't fond of...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">That just shows that talent and skill are more important than gear...if the "seasoned mixer" had used a 002 instead of the Sound Blaster it probably would have sounded even better...there's a reason those with the means choose the best stuff they can...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Actually, latency at 96kHz should be less than at 48...but I agree that in most cases it's not worth the extra bandwidth...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Probably sound even better if you did the whole thing at 44.1 rather than 48...

well said duardo!

i would much rather have a colourless mic pre than one with a colour(sound) that i have to take out. it is easier. a blank palate is the best place to allow creation to come about.

zero8,

how long have you used digi gear? do you have any audio samples that we can hear? i think that might give us good context of your opinions. i have been looking at the rack unit (mostly because i am already looking at goo mic pre's)

oh an watch out for novice's they can change the world and how it looks sonic wise. some of the best recordings turned out via experimentation with your supposed inferior gear.

my point wasn't to talk down novice engineers..my point is more to really take in consideration the ability of the 001...and the 002 isnt much better...novice means nothing but rookie..and its a concept not so much anyone paticular....my statements made about the pro engineer using the crappy gear was just an example of what you can do with little equipment...its more abouth the talent..and utilizing what you have the best way possible...and my thing is...i have $5000.00 to blow..im gonna get the 001 and a brand new mac g4 and good monitors..and a good mic pre...which is more value than the 002 with out the mic pre and i will get as good sound with the 001 or even better...
