Default writing in midi

Appreciate those who helped me with my edit window problems. Now...When writing in midi (I'm trying to write drum fills) no matter what duration I set for the notes I get a two or three bar length note. Tampering further affects the playback speed. I followed a tutorial faithfully (the guy was overwriting eighths and sixteenths) but I was unable to duplicate his success. I'm using PT first 2019 with a Focusrite. What am I doing wrong?
